| These attractive pieces are four Roman bronze fibulas, which date circa 2nd-3rd century A.D. These pieces are approximately 2.5, 2.4, 1.25, and 1.5 inches long for nos. A, B, C, and D. These intact pieces are designed as both a brooch and safety-pin. The end of the pin, which forms the "string" of the bow, is caught at the other end of the bow - in idea and function like the modern safety-pin. These fibulae all have a horizontal pin which pierced and held the cloth in place of a garment. Roman fibulae such as the superb examples offered here, fastened clothing at the shoulder beneath the chin. Nos. A and B, are known as "bow fibula", as the main body is shaped like a bow, and have a spring torsion clasp. No. C is known as a "knee fibula", and this piece has a main body that is shaped like a human knee, and has a spring torsion clasp. No. D is known as a "brooch" type, and has a main body that is shaped like a double-bodied snake, and has a spring torsion clasp. The spring torsion clasps for nos. A and B are still functional, such is the superb condition of these Roman bronze pieces. These pieces all have a nice even dark green patina, and all have nice eye appeal. These pieces are all different in design, can easily be worn today, and form a nice collection. All of these four pieces are mounted on individual custom plexiglas stands, and are easily removed. Ex: Private CA. collection. Ex: Ira Goldberg collection, Los Angeles. I certify that these pieces are authentic as to date, culture, and condition: | ||||||||||||||
