| This erotic Greek bronze piece is a hair pin, with Aphrodite seen at the terminal end. This piece was made during the Hellenistic period, circa 2nd-1st century B.C., and is approximately 2.5 inches high. The figure itself is approximately 1.5 inches high and is a minute masterpiece. This piece has a dark green patina with attractive red highlights. This piece was probably made by a gem cutter and/or coin die celator who did minute work and detail. This miniature piece has fine detail and the beautiful facial features of Aphrodite can easily be seen. Aphrodite was the Greek goddess of love and is seen fully nude. This piece was modeled after Praxiteles' Aphrodite of Cnidus that was produced circa 350-330 B.C. This piece probably had gold or silver gilt and is analogous to the gold piece seen in Christie's Antiquities New York, Dec. 1999, no.42. This piece is a splendid example of Aphrodite and is seen in a custom black/clear plexiglas stand. Ex: Private New York collection.
