Scarce Greek Xenon Oinochoe with "K" Inscription
This piece is a oinochoe that dates circa 375-350 B.C. This piece is classified as being from the "Xenon Group", and this group is named after a kantharos in Frankfurt, Germany, that bears the inscription "XENON". The piece offered here is approximately 4.2 inches high, and bears the inscription "K" that is seen on the backside of the vessel. This piece has an attractive Greek key pattern that runs around the main body of the piece, and this is centered between two double lines. There is also a line pattern seen on the upper shoulder, and there are some minute spotty white calcite deposits seen on the outer surface, some heavy white calcite deposits seen on the inside surface and inner lip of the vessel, and some minute root marking. This attractive piece is intact, has no repair and/or over paint, and is in superb condition. This vessel is scarce, as there are not many Xenon type vessels on the market that have an inscription. The "K" inscription seen here may likely represent the name of the potter, rather than the name of the workshop. Ex: Private German collection. (Additional documentation is available to the purchaser.) I certify that this piece is authentic as to date, culture, and condition:
