Japanese yatate, a portable brush holder/inkwell combination. The brush compartment of the yatate is of simple cylindrical form, and is of a silvered material, probably a copper based alloy. The yatate is in good condition with only a few spots of wear to the silvered surface. It measures 7" long and the inkwell is 1 5/8" in diameter. It dates to the Taisho-period (1912-1926).
