Antique isho-dansu, or Japanese clothing chest, dating to the late Meiji-period (early 1900's). This single section tansu is crafted from Kiri, or Paulownia wood, prized by Japanese furniture makers for being strong, lightweight and naturally resistant to damage from pests or the elements. It has been thoroughly cleaned and restored with a light brown-hued beeswax, and is in very good condition. The chest measures roughly 42 1/4" tall by 33 1/4" wide by 15 1/2" deep.
