| Antique Japanese "hanakago", a woven bamboo basket used in ikebana flower arrangement. This basket dates to the late Meiji-Period (c.1910), and a spherical design with two woven handles and three bamboo legs. The weave has a subtle simplicity, with alternating, multi-layered horizontal bands that give the impression of waves or clouds. The handles are rope-like rings, attached to the basket with perpendicular rings. The basket is solid and sturdy, with a lovely brick red patina. It stands a little over 11" tall, and measures about 11" in diameter at the widest point, tapering down to a 7" diameter rim. | |||||||||||||||
