Vintage Japanese earthenware statue of Fukurokuju, dating to the early Showa-Period (c.1930). One of the Seven Lucky Gods of Japan, or Shichifukujin, Fukurokuju is commonly associated with wisdom, wealth and longevity. The bearded deity is depicted here in traditional form, holding a staff and prayer scroll. His unusually large forehead is synonymous with scholarly wisdom. This item is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks. It measures roughly 5 inches wide by 3 1/2 inches deep, and stands 9 1/2 inches tall.
