| Beautiful old Japanese ceramic sake tokkuri rice wine decanter. This item is from the Shigaraki area of Japan, a region renowned for its many artists and kilns producing fine earthenware, known as yaki. This tokkuri is crafted in the gourd style, and the bulbous neck is glazed in the turquoise melon drip style. The lower bowl of the jug is glazed in off-white, accented by a hand painted dancing figure in impressionist style. The tokkuri dates to the early Showa-Period (c.1930), and is in excellent condition. It measures roughly 6 inches in diameter at the wide point of the jug, 1 1/2 inches at the rim, and stands a little under 12 inches tall. The artist's signature appears on the bottom. | |||||||||||||||
