| Japanese Suzuri-Bako, or calligraphy box dating to the pre-war Showa-Period (c.1930). This suzuri-bako is made from black lacquered wood decorated with relief depicting a phoenix, bamboo and kiri leaves. It comes in its original kiri box, with the manufacturer's label on the inside. The kanji on the label read right to left, in pre-war style. The box includes a suzuri (a heavy black ink stone), and a water dropper. The water dropper appears to be of a silver or pewter alloy. The lacquered bako measures roughly 9" by 6" by 1 1/2" tall. The kiri storage box measures 10 1/2" by 7 1/2" by 2 1/2" tall, with a slight crown in the lid. This item is in excellent condition, and does not appear to have been used. | |||||||||||||||
