The Art and Orchid Gallery's entirely hand made vase is covered with polychrome enamels from the interior neck to the unglazed base. The Hotei or 'God of Contentment' comfortably rests in the dented sac that he usually carries. The Art and Orchid Gallery's very old carved figure has been hollowed out (most of the back, through the neck and into the head, as well as fitting on the back of the chair) by the maker. At least some of this hollowed space was to store rolls of calligraphy.
