| This Indian lacquer ware cylindrical box has a keyed, fitted cover. It is a Decorative Art hand painted in bright colors. The box is polished and is covered with elaborate paintings of tigers hunting prey in India's grassland kingdom, probably India's Kaziranga National Park. Striped tigers have a cloak of invisibility in the tall grasslands. The hunters and the alarmed hunted prey are painted in bright colors against a background of black, red and cobalt blue. Gold outlines the green straight leaf spears and pointed shrubs that protects or dooms the animals. Characteristic of Indian art is their display of sympathy and understanding of animal forms, particularly their Southern style of Hindu art. The keyed box cover allows the scenes to run from the sides onto the cover. The interior is painted bright green to match the grass color. More history and references available on our website. Size: ~ 4 " H x 3 1/2"; Weight: 154 grams | ||
