| The Art and Orchid Gallery's antique Hungarian vase is marked in blue, under glaze: Fisher J. Budapest, Patent, Numbers and stamped into the ceramic bottom is Fisher J. #87. It was a lamp and is restored back to a vase. It is art pottery made in a precise hand painted Magyar (Hungarian) folkloric decorated style, c.a. 1882. Typical of this style is the floral motifs with fine gold tracery on all designs. Influence of the 150 years of Turkish occupation of Magyar is observable in arabesque patterns found about the shoulder and base of the vase. The typical flamboyant polychromed colors and gold tracery are somewhat muted by the mustard colored ground. The cobalt blue, yellow and gold outlines on the vase shoulder along with the high luster finish produce a highly decorative appearance. Similar patterns on Hungarian decorative objects of the same period can be found in reference books. More pictures, history and references available on our website. Size: ~ 7 1/2" H x 5 1/2"; Weight: ~ 2 pounds | ||
