Indian Miniature of Naked Woman in Garden with Ewer
Indian religious philosophies profess that inspired religious art can help worshipers pass from the material real world called Maya to the unseen spiritual world called Brahman, an all-inclusive eternal state of pure consciousness and bliss away from earthly desires and pleasures. In this particular miniature the Mogul school characteristics are apparent. The Indian representation of the female form is exemplified here with the breast development, the relatively small waist and large curved hips. It suggests the function of life-bearing, life-giving and life-loving. This 20th Century fine art work is done with incredible precision of line and remarkable detail similar to 17th-18th Century Indian paintings of young women now displayed in museums. This healthy representation of the female form includes hair and body jewelry used to adorn and outline the female form, hand and foot staining patterns, and textile and clothing styles from ancient India. The Mogul style decorations include the ogival painted header filled with minute curved plant scroll, the finely exact tree on plain background so that each twig, leaf and bud stand out and, finally, the very ornate Islamic stoppered ewer lusterware. There is a minor frame restoration. More pictures, history and references available on our website. Painting Size: ~ 5 3/4" H x 2 7/8"; Framed Size: ~ 11 3/4" H x 8 3/4"; Weight: ~ 650 grams
