Persian Kashi-Kari Blue Tile
This tile is a bright polychromed copy, reputedly from Islamic architecture. The mosaic pattern is similar to faience tiles of the Blue Mosque in Tabriz, Iran. This particular tile has a deep blue ground with gold arabesque mosaic symmetrical repetitive pseudo-floral pattern. While far from a copy of the Tabriz faience mosaic panels, this tile does exhibit the profusion of ornamentation including the ogee arch arabesque surrounding the centered square mason's script design. There is also a bronzed floral-in-vase design centered in the tile. The tile appears to be an enameled plaster cast on wood for hanging and comes in its original paper sleeve. It was probably cast in the mid-20th Century. More history and references available on our website. Size: ~ 9" H x 4 3/4" x 1/4"; Weight: ~ 205 grams
