One-Of-A-Kind Laelia anceps in a Shadow Box
Laelia anceps, variety:' Santa Barbara Sunset'; cultivar: 'Show Time' HCC/AOS (judged by The American Orchid Society as highly recommended, 75-79 points) is a late Fall blooming species of the genus: Laelia.[130A, 133B] Several 3-4" flowers bloom on a long scape in pink, magenta and, in some varieties, white. This makes the Laelia a popular Thanksgiving or Christmas orchid.[130A, 134C] The Laelia has at least 50 species; one is 'anceps'. They are closely related to the Cattleya genus. In 1863 Laelia and Cattleya were used to make the first inter-generic cross, a Laeliocattleya, by John Dominy in England.[131D] In The Art and Orchid Gallery's one-of-a-kind art series, we raised the Laelia, dried it and mounted it on a piece of its scape (stem). It is displayed on a Chinese silk brocade in a shadow box. The Laelia is decoratively shown emerging from a Chinese snuff bottle. The art is ready for hanging. A photograph of the blooming orchid is on the back with our signed label. More pictures and references available on our website. Size: 11 1/4" H x 9 1/4" x 1 1/2"; Weight: ~ 1 1/2 pounds
