| This one-of-a-kind floral art is from The Art and Orchid Gallery's "Orchids and Lace" Series. A pink phalaenopsis, best known as the moth orchid, was acquired in California in 1975 and raised with its kikis by us since.[141A] Its flowers were air-dried and mounted on white floral lace embroidery with sequins and pearls in a shadow box for table or hanging display. The back of the box contains our photo of the growing orchid and a signed label. The generic name, Phalaenopsis, is from the Greek for 'moth appearance' and best fits white flowered plants. Phalaenopsis are generally late winter or early spring blooming. Our plants have flowers into the summer months. The leaves grow on very short stems, almost none; flower spikes can last one or more months.[131B, 134C] They have become very popular house plants. We have certainly enjoyed our phalaenopsis since our "California Dreaming" days. References available upon request. Size of Shadow Box: ~ 10 1/2" H x 8 1/2" x 1 1/4"; Weight: ~ 1 1/2 pounds | ||
