White elkhorn coral (Acropora palmata) was first identified by Lamarck in 1816. It is one of the most important reef-building corals in the Caribbean. It exists in the Caribbean as well as the Bahamas and the Florida Keys. It is a habitat for reef species such as lobsters, parrot fish and snapper shrimp.
