Amber Netsuke Monkey Shape with Himo Cord Holes
The Art and Orchid Gallery purchased this piece of carved amber netsuke (because of the himo cord holes [120A]) from a Bali dealer with claimed Bali origin. As we have explained and referenced in our 507AOG, this amber netsuke piece we believe is a Chinese carving made for collectors, not Japanese.[507AOG] The carving is a siting monkey with a branch of fruit over its shoulder. The holes for the himo are on the bottom. It has a small inclusion (twig) in the left leg. The monkey has a small piece of plastic attached to its right foot bottom (probably to make it stand as a display piece). References available upon request. Size: ~ 2" H x 1 1/4"x 1 1/2"; Weight: ~ 20 grams;
