Fantasy Photo Montage with Japanese"Decorative Style"
The Art and Orchid Gallery's pictorial art (536AOG) is from its "Pi Shu Shih Nu" Series (Hui Tsung's, Sung Dynasty Emperor, Art Catalogue) using ladies in summer undress figures.[73A] However, it has been designed with many native Japanese characteristics which came to be called "Decorative Style" during the Momoyama Period (1573-1615). [106B] These characteristics include: extremes of pattern and color (certainly far from Chinese monochromes) [106C]; the bold composition of the "tree" reaching up and out of the photo [106D, 164E, 116F]; massive forms leading to finer more stylized forms ( in our piece, it is the large yellow Punica granatum skin leading from the yellow bottom to the fine vine with orchid flower[106G, 164H, 151I]. Of course, the Ukiyo-e prints of the next Japanese Period (Edo) can be seen in fantasy pictures of the "floating world" which included risque, colorful pictures of attractive young women.[116J, 164K] All of these Eastern characteristics have flavored our new pictorial art contained in a wooden shadow box. It is one-of-a-kind art ready for counter top or hanging display. References available upon request. Size: ~ 12 1/2" x 12 1/2" x 2 1/2"; Weight: ~ 3 pounds;
