Oil on Canvas, 10" x 12" unframed, circa 1870 This Dutch born artist was an important member of the Hague School of Art. He was not only an artist but a collector. He was trained at the Amsterdam Academy by Johanas Egenberger and Louis Royer and inspired by Jozef Israels. Artz moved to Paris from 1866-1874, where he set up his own studio at the suggestion of the great artist Courbet. He maintained close contacts with his colleagues Jacob Maris as well as the art dealer Goupil and company. D.A. Artz is a well listed, well respected , highly collected artist.
