The artist was a member of the Hague School and a very influential artist of the 19th century. He is famous for his renditions of canals and bridges, as is depicted in this piece. Jakob Maris is a highly collected artist with one of his paintings hanging in the Frick Museum in New York. He is listed extensively and has extensive auction records.
