India, ca. 18th century CE. Large wood fabric stamp with twin panels of text - one top, one bottom, along with 8 central panels depicting such things as the sun and moon, a tiger, flowers and birds. Over the 250 years since it was carved, it has developed a deep, tactile patina. A lovely and near-choice example! 14-3/8"H.

Northeastern India, Pala Period, 11th Century CE. Black stone (schist) carving of Buddha with scenes from his life along sides. Buddha is seated in center on a double lotus, dressed in traditional tight clothing, and in the dhyanasana pose. Elaborate decoration of Buddha, with detail of crown and jewelry. Frieze depicts wild animals under Buddha in relief. 27"H, intact with surface wear, as shown.
