Greek South Italic, Ca. 5th - 4th Century BC. Excavated from a necropolis near Ordona, Italy by Byron Farwell in 1944-1945. Published in figure 58 of Franklin Johnson's "The Farwell Collection." This terracotta pouring vessel was once ornately decorated in dark red and brown, however the millennia have worn away most of the paint and we are left with faint memories of what once was. Askoi usually were used to hold and pour oil. 5-1/4"H x 8"W including handle, chipping to lip, overall paint wear, some chipping to sides, else intact. Provenance: Ex-Byron Farwell Collection. Authenticity Guaranteed |
