A Mayan Carved Brownware Tripod Cylinder
Pre-Columbian, Mexico, ca. 600 to 900 AD. This example of Mayan brownware is striking for its rich, chocolate brown burnished finish and exquisite carving technique. The ancient artisan who created this cylinder incised the exterior walls with carefully delineated representations of seated Lords in cartouches on either side. Beyond this captivating iconography and impeccable, carving technique, this vessel is also attractive for its elegant form - tall and slender exalted upon tripod legs. 8"H. Intact/excellent condition.

Provenance: Ex-private FL collection, ex-Art for Eternity, NY.
