An Egyptian Faience Fish Amulet
Egypt, Third Intermediate Period, 11th-7th century B.C. Solid muti-hued amulet of a fish, molded in the round; raised detailing depicting scales with shades of blue, aque and green. Made in the shape of the Tilapia nilotica fish which is commonly found in the Nile River. This fish was greatly loved by the ancient Egyptians and it was used as a decorative motif on a variety of materials including stone, ceramics and glass. Ancient loss to very tip of tail, overall surface wear/roughness, else quite nice!
