From a remarkably, well-provenanced collection! Daunian, eastern Italy, ca 4th century BCE, two vessels. First is a kyathos with horned handle and wide bowl, decorated with added deep brown pigment. Other vessel single handled olpe also with much remains of added red and brown pigment. Both pieces were published in a book by Captain Byron Farlwell in 1953, detailing how these were found/recovered in 1944/45 while he was on active duty in south-eastern Italy. Kyathos measures 5-1/4"W (13cm) x 3-3/4"H (9.5cm); Olpe is 4-1/2"H (11cm) to handle. Kyathos and olpe intact and excellent. PROVENANCE: Ex-Farwell Collection from daughter of Captain Farwell.
