From ancient Mexico, ca 400 to 600 CE. Wonderful example of the Veracruz potters' skill! Terracotta head of a warrior, face and hair enhanced with black bitumen, wearing an exceptional headdress with fierce jaguar faces to each side and cross-like appendage at top - this also highlighted with added bitumen. 6-1/2"H x 6-1/2"W (not counting custom stand). Losses as shown. but still a very handsome statue! PROVENANCE: Ex-Los Angeles, CA professor's private collection Authenticity Guaranteed |
