A Roman Bronze Fitting of Minerva
$1,495.00 SOLD

Rome, ca. 1st century CE. A beautiful bronze fitting of the goddess Minerva. Depicted with crown-like headdress, a parted "melon coiffure," and draped with a loose chiffon gown. Staring forward, head slightly turned to the right, the goddess invokes her perviews of wisdom and arts. This bronze work has developed a very fine dark green patina with areas of lighter green throughout. Remains of the original iron mounting nail on rear. This piece would have been mounted on a chariot or piece of fine furniture so that the goddess may provide guidance to the owner. 4-1/4"H. Custom stand.

Provenance: Ex-Private New York Collection.
