Southeast Asia, Thailand, Ban Chiang, ca. 1st millennium BCE. An elegant amphora of an impressively grand scale with a sinuous profile and rounded bottom as well as an intricate red on cream painted decoration comprised of spiral forms against a striated background, a subtly concave band around the neck adorned with a vertical linear motif and four large concentric circular motifs that create a grand continuous spiraled effect across the body. Size: 17-5/8"H x 15" at widest.

Condition: Restored, but with excellent manganese deposits.

Provenance: Ex-private southern California collection, acquired before 1995.
