Magna Graecia, Southern Italy, ca. 5th to 3rd century CE. A stunning blackware pottery pitcher with a wide trefoil mouth and a single handle on an elegant body. The jet black glazed vessel is decorated in the Gnathian technique with fugitive red, white, and yellow pigments in a grapevine tendril pattern along a red band around the mid-section, the neck with a stylized abstract pattern along a red band as well. A lovely example in fabulous condition. Size: 5.125" W x 9" H (13 cm x 22.9 cm)

Condition: A few minor nicks to the surface, else intact and excellent with minor paint wear.

Provenance: Ex Mauric Yanez collection, Pasadena, CA.
