Ancient Egyptian Bronze Figure of Harpocrates, Late to Ptolemaic Periods, ca. 664 to 30 B.C. Solid bronze statuette of the nude child god, Harpokrates, the infant son of Isis and Horus, and a symbol of youth and fertility. Depicted enthroned, he wears the nemes headdress adorned with the Sidelock of Youth and a frontal uraeus, surmounted by a modium of uraei supporting the Hemhemet crown. His right forefinger raised to his lips, his feet set on an integral base. The reverse is left plain, save a trail of his headdress along the base of his neck. Harpocrates is actually the Greek name given to this depiction of Horus, translating to "Horus the Child." A very popular representation, survived through the Greco-Roman period. 4-1/2"H seated, intact with attractive green and brown patina. Custom stand. PROVENANCE: Ex-private AZ Collection.
