South Coast Peru Feather Textile Panel

Ancient Pre-Columbian Feather Textile Panel from the South Coast of Peru, Nazca/Huari culture, ca. 400 - 700 A.D. Natural cotton cloth backing overlaid with rows of bright yellow and orange feathers, plus two sections of blue feathers at each side; central splayed, stylized figure with feet to sides and hands upraised, grimmacing face; attached to dark brown woven sash attached at upper end. Feathered portion measures 15-1/2"W x 6"H, intact/in good condition with a few areas of old repair/re-stitch, facial features may not be original, feathers a bit faded, but complete selveges on each end. A very early and rare example... Would look spectacular professional mounted/framed (email for details). **For similar example, see Christie's - New York, May 23, 2007, Lot 21 - Price Realized $7,800**

PROVENANCE: Ex-private M. Mitchell Collection, Washington state.
