Cannibal Fork, Figi Islands, 19th Century
Rare example! Antique Cannibal Fork from the Figi Islands, ca. mid-19th century. Highly-stylized carved wood implement with open work section and four tines, accented with woven grass. Traditionally reserved for chiefs, used in ceremonies for the purpose of gaining an enemy's "mana." Mounted on custom display stand. 17-1/4"H, overall excellent condition. PROVENANCE: Ex-private Hawaii Collection.
