| Fabulous example! Antique Ceremonial Dance Wand from the Solomon Islands, early 20th century. Carved wood staff in fish form with inlaid abalone shell motifs, covered in natural black pigment. Carried as a prestige object in ceremonial dances. The art of the Solomon Islands is characterized by its intricate designs which utilize inlays of pearl shell. Traditionally, these artworks were either signifiers of status and prestige, or related to funerary rituals. 35"L x 5"W, in overall good condition, with minor flaking to wood and pigment, consistent with use. PROVENANCE: Ex-private Hawaii Collection. | ||
