Inca Blackware Bottle - Rare Form
Ca. 1400 AD. Jet black glazed, terracotta vessel having a near metallic sheen finish. The slightly gadrooned body is reminiscent of a pumpkin-like fruit having a long, slender neck with small, trumpeting rim. At the nape of the body/neck is a small, flat, loop handle with a relief puma head extending and two small paws in low relief at front. Small shard reattached to rim, else intact. A rare type. 9 ¾ inch.
PROVENANCE: Ex-private N.J. Collection, Arte Primitivo
