Of the ancient Coptic textiles that still survive, very few examples remain made of silk. This fine example depicts a Byzantine style cross in red with blue highlights, against a beige background. Ca. 4th to 6th century B.C., coming from Coptic Egypt. Textile portion itself measures 4"W x 4-3/4"L, and is in good condition. Mounted against acid-free linen, in presentation box.
