| This is a woman's headdress we purchased in Xia He, Gansu Province in China. Southwest Gansu is a Tibetan area that used to be part of the Amdo region. The headdress is made from wool with sections of corduroy, silver and Tibetan coins. The coral in the center of the silver work is a traditionally dyed coral. These are worn on special occasions, coming from the back of the head down over the back. Still used today, these pieces are really more used than antique and this piece dates probably back 50 years. It measures 34 1/2 inches high and 16 inches wide at the bottom. (88 x 40cm) | ||
