19th century
Late Qing Dynasty
Porcelain with sang de boeuf / oxblood copper glaze and overglaze famille rose enamels
H: 23.5 cm, W: 21 cm (at widest point)
Perfect condition, with only slight age wear to enamels
From a Northern California private collection (mislabeled "Yung Cheng 1723-1735" to bottom)
An unusual sang de boeuf / oxblood copper red vase, heavily potted in the apple "zun" shape, and enameled with various floral sprays in the famille rose palette. While it's common to find copper-based monochrome red vases from the late Qing, pieces with additional enameled decorations are much more rare. The bubbly red glaze provides a lively and compelling background to the famille rose flowers.
