Kangxi period, Qing dynasty
Porcelain with overglaze famille verte enamels
L: 19 cm / 7.5 in (at widest points), H: 11 cm / 4.3 (including lid)
From an Ohio estate
A charming Kangxi famille verte teapot, elegantly mounted in pewter and dark hardwood (possibly ebony). The mounting is classic 19th century English workmanship, with fluid contours and elegant form. The European metal mounting process was a way for owners to transform precious but fragile porcelain heirlooms into more durable pieces.
Condition report: There is some wear to the enamels. Due to the European mounting, the teapot’s sprout and handles are obviously not original. The pewter is burnished / dark with patina. Otherwise, this teapot is in excellent condition.
