Ca. 1790-1850, late 18th – early 19th c
Mid-Qing dynasty
Porcelain with celadon glaze; Jindezhen ware
Height: 41.7 cm / 16.4 in
Width: 30 cm / 11.8 cm (at widest point)
From a Palto Alto, CA estate

A hugely potted and magnificent vase, in archaistic form with a bulging globular body and chilong handles. Various geometric patterns (inspired by Shang/Zhou bronze), floral scrolls, and lotus petals are molded underneath a thick, bubbly celadon glaze. The vase mouth is decorated with ruyi medallions.

Jingdezhen celadon vases of archaistic form are most often Qianlong imperial wares. This vase however is unmarked. Nonetheless, the clarity of its underglaze decorations, the color and richness of its glaze, and the quality of the porcelain paste suggest this is a late 18th – early 19th century vase.

Condition: perfect antique condition, with only a tiny glaze flake to the mouth rim and some flaws to the footrim. [Please examine all photos carefully, as they are part of the condition report.]
