Chinese pottery well with green glaze, a tiny pavillion housing pulley on top, two dragon heads on the sides, and a bucket on the edge of the well. Drawing water from wells was an important daily activity in ancient China and this highly realistic model serves to reflect this aspect of life during the Han period. The last photo is the Han well in Asian Art Museum of San Francisco.
Age: China, Han Dynasty, circa 206 B.C. - A.D. 220
