Rare Burmese Tai Lue wooden buddha sitting in Mara Vijaya (calling the earth to witness) posture on tall base, with meditative facial expression, original traces of lacquer and gilding remaining.
Top of the head is a stupa-shaped "flame" or called usnisa, symbol of the realization of Nirvana or indicative of supreme knowledge. Tai Lue is a tribal people living in Burma. It is difficult to find buddha from this ethnic group. Tai Lue buddhas look more primitive than typical Burmese buddhas. Age: Burma, Shan period, circa 18th Century
