18th Century, Rare &Large Burmese Tai Lue Wooden Buddha

Rare and large Burmese Tai Lue wooden buddha sitting in Mara Vijaya (calling the earth to witness) posture on a base, with meditative facial expression, original traces of lacquer and gilding remaining.

Top of the head is a stupa-shaped "flame" or called usnisa, symbol of the realization of Nirvana or indicative of supreme knowledge.

Tai Lue is a tribal people living in Burma. It is difficult to find buddha from this ethnic group. Tai Lue buddhas look more primitive than typical Burmese buddhas.

Age: Burma, Shan period, circa 18th Century
Measurement: Height 73.2 C.M. / Width 21.9 C.M.
Condition: Nice condition overall (some expected degradation due to its age including natural cracks and a chip on top of buddha head). Please refer to the enlargement photos for more details.
