| Offered here is a set of three nesting boxes made of hand-made paper and bamboo. They were made in South Korea during the late Choson Dynasty, ca. early 19th century. In Korean folk museum collections they are usually suggested to have been used by women to contain sewing materials, although they could have been used for almost any purpose. These boxes show their age from darkened and aged-appearing paper, as well, the colors have softened and changed into various beautiful pastel shades. Several of the corners have been banged and repaired over the years. In general, the condition of the three boxes is good, although there are some old bug holes and water damage to the interior of the middle size box. This middle size box, however, is still sound and the paper is strong. Please see photographs for questions of condition. The largest box measures: L: 16 3/4" W: 9 3/4" H: 4 3/8". The middle box measures: L: 15" W: 8" H: 4. The smallest box measures: L: 13 1/2" W: 6 1/2" H: 3 1/4". | |||||||||||
