A mushroom knopped heavy baluster wine goblet which represents the coming of age for English glassmaking… the time when the medium of lead crystal metal could express a breakaway from Venetian hegemony and define the English style which went on to dominate the glass trade. This glass has all the confidence of the era: it is made from beautifully clear, unctuous lead metal and is well proportioned and harmonious. A glass with great presence. The heavy bottomed round funnel bowl has a very slight incurve which gives a lift to the whole enterprise and after a short section of plain stem is supported by a teared mushroom knop. The tear has been drawn into another plain section and so to a final teared basal ball knop. The whole edifice stands on a folded conical foot.

CONDITION:
Apart from light scratching to the inside of the bowl (lighter than most glasses of this age) there is a small black cinder inclusion under the fold of the foot (see inset on picture 6). Other than that the glass is in fine original and unrestored condition.

DESCRIPTION:
The rummers have bucket bowls engraved each with a depiction of a “pilot cutter” with the name BROTHERS engraved below. There are engraved hops and barley and also a monogram on each glass. The bowl is supported with a tapering triple annulated knopped stem with a medial bladed knop all standing on a plain conical foot. The engraving on these glasses is of exceptionally good quality, being both crisply executed and depiction of the sailing vessels is accurately observed.

CONDITION:
This pair of rummers have obviously been lovingly cared for and treasured (or perhaps hidden and forgotten) for nearly 200 years, because, apart from the usual frit, cinder and air inclusions from manufacture (see enlargements 2 and 5 to see one example of each type) they are faultless and in remarkably clean condition.
NOTES:
Considering their subject matter and their origin it is seems quite possible that the vessel depicted was a Trinity House cutter used in piloting ships into the mouth of the Tyne.

DESCRIPTION:
An unusual ale glass of with an elongated round funnel bowl above a double series opaque twist stem with shoulder knop. The twist is fashioned with a pair of spiral tapes inside a pair of close multi-ply spiral bands. The glass stands on a plain conical foot. The glass is constructed of lovely clear lead crystal glass.
DIMENSIONS:

Foot diameter 3 inches.
CONDITION:
In good condition with a ⅜ inch section of the foot rim which feels slightly rough or sharp. This has resulted from when the glass was manufactured and is caused by there being a grooved tooling mark that travels diagonally across the outside edge of the foot rim. The existence of this tooling mark is a reassuring sign that there has been no restoration to the glass that is in excellent condition throughout.

DESCRIPTION:
A fine and handsome, full bottle size “Lynn” decanter with a shoulder style body with six incised rings or corrugations and broken pontil mark. The loose fit and un-ground multi-teared stopper has a rather attractive open elongated central tear and a broken pontil mark at its base.
DIMENSIONS:
Height with stopper 10½ inches;
Height without stopper 9 inches
Body diameter at base 4¼ inches;
Capacity 850 mL.
CONDITION:
Good condition. The stopper appears to be original in that it is period, sits at the correct height in the neck and is well fitting for a lose fit stopper i.e. not ground to fit as is usual with decanters. The decanter shows fairly light and normal wear for it’s age and the body is free of bloom.

DESCRIPTION:
An unassuming, plain and simple dram glass with an ogee bowl above a plain stem all standing on a thick, plain firing foot.
DIMENSIONS:
Height 4 inches;
Bowl diameter 1⅞ inches;
Foot diameter 2¾ inches.
CONDITION:
There is a small seed in the bowl that can be seen at 7 o’clock in all the pictures showing the bowl and a row of enclosed air bubbles in the foot. These are manufacturing faults and quite normal for glass of this period. The glass is in fine condition showing the usual patterns of wear to the foot and bowl rims.

DESCRIPTION:
A refined looking Georgian drinking glass made with lead crystal glass with a very crisp flute moulded round funnel bowl above a multi-spiral opaque twist with a medial knop standing on a plain conical foot. Single series opaque twist glasses with knops are relatively uncommon ⎯ Barrington Haynes puts them at about 5% of all opaque twists.

DESCRIPTION:
A solid “fit-for-purpose” antique wine goblet made of good quality English lead glass with ovoid bowl wheel engraved with a fruiting vine and a dove above a plain stem standing on a plain conical foot with broken pontil mark.

CONDITION:
In excellent condition with a very few light, inconsequential scratches to the outside of the bowl and the other normal wear to the foot and bowl rims.
NOTES:
This simple glass is described as “fit-for-purpose” because it is one of only a few types of 18th century glasses that can be used in the modern context of wine drinking: it is a good size with an incurved bowl which helps trap the bouquet of a wine, it sits very comfortably in the hand and its cost will not be too inhibiting.

DESCRIPTION:
A charming double series air twist wine glass with ogee bowl with wrythen fluting to the lower half of the bowl above a double series air twist stem composed of a spiral gauze inside a pair of spiral threads standing on generous plain conical foot.

CONDITION:
In good, unrestored condition with a minor black impurity in the upper surface of the foot and a couple of very small air inclusions. Light wear to the underside of the foot and bowl rims.
