DESCRIPTION:
A solidly made and handsome rare wine goblet made from good, clear lead crystal glass with plain straight-sided bucket bowl above a triple series white opaque twist stem made up of an inner vertical column surrounded by a spiral gauze which in turn is surrounded by a pair of heavy spiral tapes standing on a plain conical foot. DIMENSIONS: Height 7¾ inches; Bowl diameter 3¼ inches; Foot diameter 3¾ CONDITION: In excellent condition with relatively little wear. NOTES: Several features go into making this glass a rarity. The bucket shaped bowl is an uncommon form and the triple series white opaque twist is even more rare. However, seeing these features in a goblet is pretty well unique. The skill in making such a harmonious, beautifully proportioned and tastefully understated glass is a tribute to the artisans who helped Georgian and Regency Britain reach the pinnacle of sophisticated classical aesthetics… aesthetics that permeated right through the nation's culture from high art and architecture to the simplest of domestic artifacts. |
