| Bickerton illustrates a similar wine glass in his book, Eighteenth Century English Drinking Glasses, on page 206 fig. 603 and classifies the stem as a single series opaque twist. However, it can be argued this classification is erroneous and that the glass should be considered as being a mixed twist. The glass offered here is in some ways superior to the one illustrated by Bickerton in that this glass has a rib moulded round funnel bowl as oppposed to the rather austere plain ogee bowl in Bickerton's example. The stem is made up of an elongated tear which interestingly and confusingly reflects the surrounding four spiral tapes to make the stem look more complex than it actually is. The foot is of the plain conical form. The glass measures 14 cm tall, 4.9 cm across the bowl and the foot 6.9 cm. The glass is in fine condition with normal age related wear to the bowl and foot rims. It should be mentioned that there is a small "seed" in the bowl which can be seen in picture two. | ||
