Alexander 21" Portrait Doll Compo Wendy Ann Face Original Gown Gorgeous with red mohair wig and beautiful tagged gown, this very hard to find Madame Alexander Wendy Ann faced composition doll is a wonderful addition for your collection. She was probably made in 1942 or 1943. I purchased this wonderful doll from the original owner’s daughter. The dolls that I found with similar faces in this era, quality, and presentation were called portrait dolls in the books. This one has exceptionally fine quality composition that has not crazed or cracked or chipped. She was stored in a trunk, only to come out to daylight again just recently. The only detraction I can find to the doll's body is where the composition has rubbed off where the head connects with the body and turns, and she has a tiny crack on the eye hole rim of one eye. The knees still have their lovely blush. She has been re-strung, as her original stringing was very loose. The red mohair wig is thick and clean and in curls at the front and braids curled around her ears. I have no idea if this is how she came from the store, as I cannot find any pictures of this doll in my many Alexander books. I found one picture with similar gowns in various pastel colors, which were called Bridesmaids and they did not have the braided updo style. The bridesmaids list in the 33rd Alexander price guide for $1,800.00 up, and the 12th Doll Values lists the Portrait 20-22" composition Wendy Ann face dolls for $2,000.00-$4,000.00. This Wendy Ann faced young lady is strikingly beautiful. She has open close blue eyes, eyeshadow, thick eyelashes, and her cheeks are still blushing. Her gown is truly beautiful in white filmy sheer material with two rows of white satin ribbon at the bottom and across the bodice and sleeves, and at the bottom of the sleeves. There is an attached slip in a silky white material and matching panties. Some light mending has been done on the seams of the panties and slip. Her shoes with ribbons are vintage and appropriate, but not original. Her gown is tagged in the back and reads, “Madame Alexander/New York, U.S.Aâ€. Her gown has a train, making it longer in the back. I have shown this in the pictures. I find no problems to list except one tiny snag on her sleeve. It is in very good condition. It is hard to believe this doll is over 70 years old! She is from smoke free homes.
