CONDITION: A Collector’s Dream! This circa 1890, all original 17” Tete Jumeau Bebe size 7 is in such great condition it will be a long time finding another one that would surpass her, especially with the unusual, pink silk, adult version lady’s gown and parasol!
HEAD: Her lovely smooth bisque with superb painting is perfect, without damage, has original paperweight eyes in original set, original spring attachment, and cork pate. The back of her head is stamped with the typical red decal with artist check marks. Talented craftsmanship is so evident, with deft application of her arched brows. Her glamorous lashes surround matching eye cuts and swimmingly deep paperweight eyes. There are no bisque or paint chips or rubs to be seen. Her expression is friendly, with a slight smile to her accented lips. She even has her original Jumeau blond mohair wig in original upswept upper portion with bangs and original pink silk bow on top. She came without earrings, but if the buyer requests some original Jumeau earrings, I have cream colored ones that could be purchased separately. Please ask.
BODY: Her stamped body retains its original finish without touchups or repairs. More wear is shown on the left shoulder but since the rest of the doll shows little wear, I believe paint may have been removed intentionally at joints to assist in movement. There is considerable chipping and flaking on the lower arms and legs, but well covered with clothing, this should stay in like condition for years to come and will not be disturbing when displayed. Consider the amazing originality of the doll when weighing this one area of imperfection.
CLOTHING: Her ensemble is extensive, all original and complete! The evening gown reflects the ladies mode of fashion for that decade with full sleeves, less bustle but nice fullness at the back of the skirt, all finished with luscious French laces and closed with hooks and loops. There is slight melting of the silk mainly at the sleeves and a little at the front of the bodice but it is sturdy due to the full cotton lining. Please enlarge the photos to examine and feel free to ask for additional photos if desired. Included are the three pieces of underclothing original to her, her original net socks (in light blue) and her stamped Jumeau size 7 shoes. I hope all can stay with her for generations to come. I refuse to strip these lovely antique dolls of their originality simply for more profit. I have added the hat as well.
Her adorable wood handled parasol is of light peach color and works fine but has seen better days. The silk has melted some. More photos than can be posted here are available.
