What a wonderful example of J. D. Kestner’s Hilda in a cute 13 inch size! She is so sweet and lifelike, I find her irresistible! So popular, due to her cherubic expression and realism, “Hilda” has always demanded a higher price. There are collectors who just have not been able to pass them by and can point out a half a dozen in their collection! I am happy to present this doll to you at a price you will not want to pass by.

HEAD: Its such a delight to discover a doll that has been well cared for as long as 100 years! It usually means she was a very prized possession and not played with much for fear of damaging her. As expected from the German manufacturer, J. D. Kestner, her bisque is smooth and free of defects, damage or repair. Her soft brown sleep eyes work well and she still has some hair lashes. You don’t see that very often! Her fine upper and lower lashes were skillfully applied in charcoal grey, as were her nut-brown eyebrows and rosebud lips. The depth of the incised markings on the back of her head, “JDK 245 Made in Germany K-10 JDK Jr. 1914 Hilda”, with additional markings at the base of her neck relay the fact that she was one of the early castings from the mold. To date, her original, hand tied, blond mohair wig and plaster pate have never been removed. To avoid disturbing this part of her originality, she will be shipped with her head stuffed from the neck hole. Her two milk glass teeth, which are essential to her expression and a tremble tongue showing from behind, have survived without issue as well!

BODY: This nearly mint condition Hilda’s original five piece baby body is in great condition with very minor wear. The original blushing and accent lines are still present and can be so appreciated. On her torso, there is only a 1” long surface craze line near the neck which can be seen in the photo.

CLOTHING: Isn’t she just darling in her little white baby gown with tucks and rows of lace! And it doesn’t stop there! Even more rows of lace edge the hem of her slip! She wears a little undershirt and diapers. Since its getting cooler, she may want a pair of booties soon.

CONDITION:Rarely will you find this size Hilda in such excellent condition. Free from damage to bisque or body with the insignificant exception of a craze line on the torso mentioned above and a light nose rub, she is a collector’s dream! Just as important is her expression! You seldom find a Hilda with expression sweeter than this!

The bunny is a photo prop and not included in this sale.
